Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You’ll be working on Kaluza’s Flexibility platform. Designed to be the nervous system connecting energy retailers, grid operators, and consumers, Flex will aid us in creating the distributed, consumer-centric, dynamic energy system of the future. Bridging the gap between distributed renewable generation and smart devices, it helps consumers shift their energy consumption to times when there's more renewable energy. This not only saves them money, but enables society as a whole to meet the challenge of decarbonising transport and residential heating/cooling. We’re also supporting this vital shift by building the innovative technology behind unique, market-leading customer propositions like Vehicle to Grid and Charge Anytime Energy Plan with our energy retailer partners.

What will I be doing?

You will be fully embedded on a team working on the Charge Anytime app (and the backend systems that power it) that helps EV drivers shift their charging schedules to times when there is more renewable energy available on the electric grid.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to a team of backend and frontend engineers to ensure they can ship features quickly while scaling in a sustainable way
  • Writing code across the stack to help the team meet their delivery goals
  • Reviewing code from your colleagues
  • Creating and delivering against the technical strategy for your team in partnership with an engineering manager
  • Promoting engineering and delivery best practices within the team
  • Championing progressive architecture and reviewing design solutions with other engineering leaders
  • Working within a team of other senior leaders responsible for designing and evolving the architecture for the Flex platform

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you’ll have:

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience and expertise building iOS and/or Android apps with Flutter or similar framework
  • Experience of developing backend applications
  • Be equally passionate about hands-on engineering as well as technical strategy
  • A bias to action and a ‘Can do’ approach to problem solving in the face of uncertainty
  • Experience of mentoring, training and developing other engineers
  • An ability to deliver against a technical strategy iteratively, working through ambiguity to deliver change over longer periods
  • An ability to collaborate with people managers, product managers and agile practitioners to contribute to a high-performing culture
  • Experience with event-driven architectures is a plus
  • Experience of programming in Dart/Flutter and Go is a plus
