Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.
Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers. From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.
Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?
You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a diverse group of both data-led and product-focused engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. We strive for engineering quality & innovation, continuously improving our best practices across our highly collaborative community.
More specifically, you’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s Customers.
You'll be joining as an engineer in the Accounts and Metering area, in one of the teams there. There is a strong remote-first ethos - they run all team ceremonies and engineering pairing sessions virtually, and aim to be as flexible as possible to balance work with life. Team members can choose how and where to work, whether it’s from one of our lovely offices or from home or a mixture of both. Every 4-6 weeks we do like to get together as a team for workshops, discussion and some socialising; for meet-ups that are not held at your local office we can cover the costs of travel and accommodation if necessary.
What will I be doing?
We very much believe in sharing both responsibilities and the successes in our team, so you’ll be exposed to many aspects of our portfolio of work from the get go. The teams build, tests, deploys and supports a range of services that manage the customer lifecycle and metering data for use across the Kaluza platform, with a diverse set of underlying technologies. We don’t expect you to arrive with experience of all of them, but you can expect to learn about and get hands-on with typically Scala and TypeScript development, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Serverless, Dynamo or Postgres, AWS and DataDog. As a team, we currently follow a SCRUM approach to Agile development, making use of tools like Miro, Confluence, Jira and Trello for workshops, documentation, task management, Etc.
You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle from rapid prototyping to helping us scope our work and backlog refinement to developing, configuring and deploying services, to monitoring and improving our operational health. You will join our support rota to triage platform issues and respond to incidents; Kaluza itself has a great learning culture, so you can also expect to be dedicating some of your time to active learning and development.
There are several interesting challenges to solve including:
- How to abstract and reduce complexity across multiple clients and countries
- Scale systems to process millions of data points through complex processes
- Build extensible systems that allow for customizability
